Do I need the extra insurance when I rent a car? It depends. You should always review your auto policy to learn about the basic coverages and deductible amounts.  Any questions should be addressed to your agent.  You may want to write down your policy number and keep it with you. Certain rental companies may request it if you forgo their coverages. Also, if you are traveling for business, ask your employer if they require any specific procedures when renting a vehicle.  Also, please note, most auto insurance policies sold in this country do not protect you when driving outside of the US or Canada.
